EXAMS

THE MOST DREADED WORD IN A STUDENT'S LIFE: EXAMS

Well, havent had much time to post recently, so here's just a short rant... Thought of writing last night before exams started but yeah... Any good student should be "busy" right... XD

So yeah, I just came back from my Geography paper... And it all went O....K.... I guess... sometimes I felt like I was rambling and crapping during the essays (as usual)... Especially the 3rd essay... I thought I was done and dusted, after writing 2 whole pages of bullshit... Only to turn around and see ANOTHER empty page... I was like WTF u expect me to write that much??? Insanity. Im not THAT verbose or into prolixity till I can crap out another page (literally) outta thin air... So... I left, having done all I can... No regrets.... And the next paper... French Level 3...

Seriously, if I actually pass this next damned paper, im gonna believe that a higher power is helping me... Or I just struck the euromillions lottery... I already got shoved into French 3 (was supposed to fail by 1 mark in French 2 last year. DAMN.) by the lecturers, so... All I can do is go in blindfolded, shoot some questions and leave... And hope that a guardian angel cleans up my mess... XD *Sigh* Thats all for now fellas... Take care wherever you are... =)

My new baby

In this post, u will experience the full-blown extent of my hidden geekiness... U have been warned... XD
There she lies, in all her glorious beauty, sleeping so soundly on my bed... my new VAIO... haha...
I might sound like some loony geek who's drooling all over the floor, but trust me, if u have one of these babies, you'd be doing the same too...

I mean... Just look at it. White. Simple. Stylish. Beauty. I've run outta words to describe it! It really is a huge contrast to my also-white but seriously messy bed... XD

Well, enough of drool and let me introduce my new toy to u guys. It's a Sony Vaio CW26FG, a 14-incher that cost RM3999... A tad pricey, but I believe its worth every damn cent that went into it...

It comes with an Intel Core i5-520M processor, clocked at 2.40GHz, 3MB Level 3 Cache with TurboBoost up to 2.93 GHz... I've only got this baby for a week, and without much time to transfer my stuff over, so I have not really tweaked around with the benchmarks and the gimmicks of this laptop... Shame really...

It also comes with the now almost-standard 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB 5400 RPM hard disk, and of course, the new Windows 7 Home Premium. Since I was using Vista before this, 7 is not too major an upgrade for me... Most things still run pretty much the same, after an hour or 2, it felt just like home =)

Of course, the graphics are not to be missed out... A Nvidia GT330m is the heart of this notebook's graphic capabilities. According to Notebookcheck's mobile graphics cards comparison list, the GT330m is a Class 2 graphics card that can pretty much handle most of the newer games on medium or so graphics settings. Good enough for me...

One reason Im raving all over my notebook is that, its not just a bimbo, its a beauty with brains... The figures from the Windows Experience Index should speak for all... 6.8 for processor and 6.4 for graphics.... (outta 7.9)*whistles*
That's almighty nuts! My only gripe is that old games like Starcraft don't work on Windows 7... So yeah... But I'll get my grubby hands on some new games too...

So... To descibe my new baby in one word? Perfection. U cant really get much better than this at the price range.... A sleek 14-incher, 2.4 kgs and armed to the teeth... A well-rounded medium-range laptop which is perfect for work and play... Tempted? =p

Terima kasih banyak banyak! XD

IRF

IRF. Industry Recruitment Forum.... or so I think... (Don't know why my head keeps thinking its International Recruitment Forum, makes sense though...) Oh well, basically its the day (as I explained b4), where all these big honchos from hotel groups come to see us, some even interview us for possible internships... Sounds great eh, in theory? But actually, it is a total bummer of a day...

Reasons? Most of the companies that come dont really accept non-EU students due to visa issues... and then U have some places like disneyland paris, where u need really fluent french, or some other chains where they require u to be elligible to work in their country b4 u even think about applying... So... this leaves us with... a very limited choice....

In my last post, I mentioned about having 2 interviews, but it got even further narrowed down to one... The bloody Taj ppl had some "emergency meeting", so no1 was there, supposed to have skype/telephone interviews but it all didnt work out... and remember i also mentioned I was supposed to have 3? Well, here's the story...

I applied for Marina Mandarin Singapore, apparently last year it was one of the hottest hotels, every1 applied for it... In fact they had to interview 15 ppl at one shot. F-I-F-T-E-E-N. ZOMFG. And according to some "insider news", those bastards from HR already chose the successful applicants even BEFORE the damn interviews began... So why bother?

Well, I didnt get the MMS (Marina bla bla bla) interview... because apparently their manager had to skip the trip due to some "business developments". How fancy. Hey guys, if u wanna cook up a story, do a better one ok? Cant u send a more junior manager? Or some1 who's on the same level? Define business developments!?  Dont ur company want more interns?

My conspiracy theory is... These bastards are all out to save cash, since its a global recession and all... So they would just like to recruit domestically, saves lots of time,money,trouble... And being Singaporean (no offense, I just HAVE TO take a swipe at u fellas), they probably gave some lame excuse for not coming. Finito. *applause*

Well, how about ur other interview, u guys might ask... Well... IMHO, the school probably filtered the applicants according to the criteria that the company gave, so... Malmaison made a big blunder in that case... All they said was... Any nationality, speaks english. GENIUS. Isnt that like... EVERY DAMN STUDENT HERE? So...

Its their folly that they have to interview like 300 of us... IN ONE DAY... So they resorted to groups of 4, lasting for 10 minutes each... In fact, it was more like a personal presentation about their company... They just talk about who they are, what do they do, etc etc... And in the end, we have to send our CVs to them via email anyway... Opinion? I dont even have to say anything... I quote one of the chaps who was with me during the interview: "Bullshit company.". Still. I want a job there. Confused? LOL.

Ah well, probably the first post that I really ranted about something... Just for kicks actually... Well, if this post kinda opened ur eyes a lil, its barely the tip of the iceberg... expect more swipes at Singapore (for some reason, maybe its the "Neighbouring Country Rivalry" thingy) in future posts... And rants that seem to start from nowhere and end nowhere... That's all for now folks...

Merci mes amis!
Monsieur Chan

p/s: I wonder how am I gonna survive 6months of working in Singapore WITHOUT condemning the country even once if I get a job there. LOL. XP

Ageing

Man, that was the fastest I actually thought of writing a 2nd post! Well, the title this time is "Ageing", and I'll very soon get to the bottom of my point... (in 500 words hopefully)

Well, like last year, our school (SHMS) is organizing this IRF thingy again... Basically, its a congregation of many big hotel chains or hospitality-related companies such as Swiss International Air Lines, hospitality recruitment agencies, hospitality management agencies, etc etc etc... So yeah, basically, these blokes are here on the lookout for talented students such as yours truly *cough*...

Last year ended quite haphazardly, I applied for a few places, but ended up getting Z-E-R-O interviews, to my dismay... But this year takes a turn for the better I guess, got 2 interviews (supposed to get 3, I'll explain that later) from Malmaison and Taj hotel groups... Basically, my aim this year is to try by all means to get an internship in the UK. Why UK? I kinda like the country I guess... And I do have friends staying there... (Kok, Mama Vynie, etc... LOL) And its where they have the EPL! And yeah, its a predominantly English-speaking country, much better off than Switzerland, everywhere either French or German...

Regardless, the Malmaison group seems like a breath of fresh air... They seem to take a radical approach, not very conventional in the industry. I like that. The problem is... My interview time is 14:30. By then I think those fellas would have interviewed like 100++ students... I might be jobless before I even get interviewed... Damn...  Oh well.... There's still Taj... What could go wrong? Well... For starters, I just received an email yesterday saying that all their high-ranking hotshots have a meeting to attend to, and interviews would be via Skype/telephone... There goes half my advantage of having "A good 1st impression" *cough cough*... To add to boot, they might be offering me jobs in India only, though they own the London Crown Plaza... A risk worth treading into I guess...

Well, after all that, you would be probably thinking now, "WHAT THE F*** has all of the above crap gotta do with ageing?" Erm... Its just a feeling that im always like a few years older in my head than I am supposed to be chronologically... Call this self-praise, but people always said I tend to think ahead of my time (as in think like an older person), increased maturity perhaps? Oh well, most of my friends, they are still thinking of what to study. Me, Im thinking of where to start working. Thinking about settling down, a job, a career, house, car, wife, kids, dog, blablabla... Its just like... Im no longer young... People would come up and say, "Dude, ur only 20!" but it certainly doesnt feel that way...

Maybe because of this I start being abit looser, going out for drinks, having fun more I guess... I start to appreciate my youth... Sounds bizzare... But... I think all the while I just feel like getting old, getting to the next stage in life as the current one always bores me. But when I finally get to the next stage, I look back and miss the old one... When I was like 10 or 12 my mom asked me, "What do u miss about being a kid?" I said... "I can go into girls toilets without getting scolded!" LOL. Of course that was just a joke, but yeah... U get the point I guess...

So... Conclusion? Moral of the above long-winded verbose crap? Enjoy ur youth while u can guys... Im only 20 but I felt like I've wasted a huge part of my life already... And life's only... just beginning... *sigh*

It's a long road guys... Savor every step that you take.

p/s: I did not drink at all before posting this. =P

Renaissance

As the title suggests, this is a rebirth, or rather return to blogging for me... Since my last blog didnt go out too well (5 posts =.=) I decided to scrap the old one entirely as I thought it was a waste trying to resurrect it anyway, and the whole layout and stuff was an eyesore.

So... this new blog would be much more random I guess, I'll be just posting things from the top of my head or stuff I picked up from the 'net, or my usual Gundam hobby findings/ramblings/cool stuff. Actually, some of you might find this blog rather funny, as I AM prone to outbursts sometimes, and you might find them appearing here... Well, I guess I am much more emo than I would like people to assume I am... Taking after my mother I guess...

Speaking of which, my parents are in Switzerland starting yesterday the 12th of March... I took them to have dinner at the French Restaurant in my school, they seemed pretty impressed but kinda tired as well... Had to ditch dessert because my dad insisted on catching the 8.16 train down, can't blame them... jet lag and all...

Well, there you have a glimpse of things to come I guess... A much more unstructured and random blog, I'll just be typing things that pop into my head, on the trot... Not much editing... Just ideas flowing through my fingers... literally... Hope you guys dont mind yeah... Anyway, its been a while since I've blogged, but this kinda feels good.... VERY SURPRISINGLY... oh well... I'll be signing off for now, look forward to the next post... (if there ever is gonna be one, keep ur fingers twiddly crossed) =P

Cheers fellas!
