3 weeks of work

After a 3.5 week or so hiatus... IM BACK... hehe... actually I'm not that busy, just kinda lazy everyday after work to do anything... So here's basically what happened in the past 3 weeks =)

Week 1+2

Day 1 was kinda short... Like a briefing for an hour, then my boss kinda showed me around for another hour... And then I was off! That was like the fastest ever 1st day of work for me... Kinda expected it to be busy as hell... The rest of the week and the next was abit tough... Carrying lots of stuff everywhere, setting up classrooms from scratch, making sure everything was in place and working... Don't remember specifics that much after so long, but basically it was setup, setup, and more setup everywhere... At the end of week 2... the students started coming in... which brings us to....

Check-in Weekend

Well basically, check-in weekend is when all the students come, and they have to go thru this 13 step induction point thingy where they obtain signatures from each point if they have completed the task (filled forms/obtained uniform/installed some stuff/handed in photos, etc) So my induction point was No.11, and it involved me explaining about the email accounts, the wireless networks, antivirus installation and other minor stuff... Well in theory it sounds simple, but try saying the same damn thing to 450+++ students! Even after 1 day I already felt like some kinda parrot... "Polly want a cracker x 450"  lol... But it was nice to meet some old friends again after a few months...

Week 3+

After all that, the students have their first week of class, and they would come if they still have problems with wireless internet, email, or lecturers having problems with projectors or their stuff... After all that, basically I sit in my office waiting for problems to occur... Its a mixed feeling... When everything is fine and working, its quiet and boring... So u actually WISH for work or problems to occur... However when some bigass problem occurs u'll be thinking about the good ol' quiet days... So its a mixed bag... lol...

Anyhow, I'm kinda settling into this day2day routine now... So once again, thanks for reading guys! Hope I didn't bore you out that much with this post... Take care wherever you are =)

The Journey

Part 1
QR0625 Kuala Lumpur - Doha

Flight was pretty cool, I met this Geology graduate, she graduated from UKM, is going off to Abu Dhabi for training, then to Texas for more training, and then to Rio de Janeiro for work! How's that for a chance abroad! And I thought that local grads didnt have much of a shot when it comes to working abroad... Her name was Sheryl, and we chatted about almost everything under the sun i guess... And for once, no crying baby during the flight... Couldn't have asked for anything better =)

Part 2
QR0047 Doha-Geneva

Now the 2nd flight was pretty bad... It started off with me being displaced from my seat by some guy who wants his gf to sit with him instead, I was quite happy to because he was coughing loudly and kept knocking me with his arms... And the rest of the flight was attempts at sleeping, only remember waking up like 10 times, and this time a baby was involved... To boot I ended up sitting beside this kid who wouldn't listen to a damn thing his mother said and they were wrestling over his remote control half the flight... Bad bad bad flight... Left me all burnt out and exhausted...

Part 3
Geneva -Caux

For the 3rd leg, I hopped on to a local Swiss train from Geneva Airport and changing trains at Montreux, to take the train up to my school at Caux... The total journey time was about 1 hour to Montreux and 30 minutes to Caux... Nothing much happened, trying to sleep while blasting music via earphones at the same time(bad idea) Train to Caux was incredibly full... Bumped into 2 fellow co-workers from Indonesia, one of them speaks Mandarin and studied at Taylor's before! The world is indeed small...

Present

At the moment just chilling, already unpacked everything, kinda tired and starving but too exhausted and lazy to go out and get food... Oh well, tomorrow perhaps... Shall sign out for now folks... Thanks for reading!

The end of a voyage, the beginning of another journey.

Injured.

Dear All,

Due to unfortunate circumstances during my daily badminton sessions, I am currently injured, and walking is barely possible at the moment. It occured when I was jumping and *dont really remember what happened* twisted my ankle the next thing I knew... I guess that means no sports for a couple of days... Although I do hope to be up and running AND jumping by the usual Friday volleyball session at my dad's school...

So, since I finally dragged my arse out here to post something, might as well update on whats happening with me nowadays... Which is basically nothing??? Since Ipoh is pretty much deserted of ppl from "my batch", I'm pretty much relegated to eating, sleeping, and the occasional wandering around/movie trip... And with all these extra time I've finally found some motivation to complete my insane backlog of gundam models... hehe...

Now mainly concentrating on BB Senshi Sangoukden, which is the chinese epic story Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which is based on the Three Kingdoms era of actual Chinese history...

Since I'm pretty well acquainted with that tale, so following the story is kinda easy... Lots and lots of stuff to build too ^^
Some images of the kits to bore/interest you =D

From left to right: Guan Yu, Liu Bei and Zhang Fei. Oath at the Peach Garden special clear kit (I do not own this) =p

Kung Ming Re-GZ and Zhou Yu Hyaku Shiki Red Cliff Movie edition color (Again, I DO NOT own this)

Lolz... Oh well... I did want to create a post on Gundam for quite a while, but seems like I've lazed off till now... To everyone working/studying everywhere, take care and make the most outta ur day =)

Paths of Glory

Dear all,

Holidays have been..... boring? Apart from staying up for World Cup, ntg much else done, a couple of hangouts and thats kinda it... Sry 4d lack of updates recently, cuz there are NO UPDATES? Oh well, the title of the post refers to this book(yes, I'm THAT bored) that I bought and finished recently...

By Jeffrey Archer, one of my favourite authors, ex-convict and also ex-Conservative party VP in UK... ^^;
It's about George Mallory, one of the Everest climbing pioneers who did/did not make it to the top... Kinda like a fictional biography, with the author's usual brilliant wit... But a lack of the usual plot twists since its a biography... ^^;

Oh well, sorry to bother you guys but yeah, IM THAT BORED... XD lolz... Anywayz, everyone take care wherever u are and whatever u're doing... =)

Home... or is it?

Well... I'm officially "home" now... or not... Don't even know where is home now, since im shifting every 6 months and I only spend 2 months or less at this place i call "home"... Oh well, as u can see from the time, I'm having serious jet lag, and I cant sleep... hopefully can recover by tuesday or wednesday...

Arriving at the airport... I was quite cruelly reminded how "Malaysian" Malaysians can be... From the rush to get out of the plane, to the pushing and shoving on the aerotrain, and to the siege those fellas laid onto the baggage carousel... Ah... It really feels like home... ^^;   Oh well...

Im literally bored to death at home alone... So... If anyone wants to call me out to yumcha or anything, Im still using my old number; 0125893833... If ur free, just pop me a msg if u dont see me on9 or anything... lol... Off to bed now... And hopefully awake in time for lunch... Need to get some driving practise...

3 weeks gone, 2 weeks left...

Its the eve of my final exams, and its been 3 really long weeks since I posted anything up here, been kinda busy but I guess my lazy streak kinda kicked in again... So whats been going on?

Well, firstly there's a ton of projects to finish, and I guess I'll look back at this semester and think, HTF we managed to finish all of that in that much time? "Accelerated" program indeed i guess... Oh well, here's a breakdown of my final exam then... (I don't normally remember, so writing it here should help abit ^^;)

25/5 - Banqueting/Events
26/5 - Housekeeping Management
27/5 - Introduction to Tourism
31/5 - French
02/6 - Fidelio

To those who think that this looks kinda loose, one paper a day...  I still have 3 projects due; Front Office on 24/5, Marketing and Accounting as well... And right smack in the middle of the exam period... I guess time managment is key now...

And to my Malaysian friends who keep pressing me to tell them when Im coming back, this is the biggest hint yet.... (or rather, a dead giveaway ^^;) So, just 2 more weeks en Suissse... It's gonna be bittersweet, as always with life... When you think you're sick of a place, but you actually miss the people when you leave...

And next on to Malaysia. Ipoh. HOME.
You know, it's been ages since I've actually gone back... A whole year in fact... And we're abroad for this long, we can't help but miss home, miss every damn thing that you thought was irritating, but now you think back and just smile to yourself...  And of course... THE FOOD.

I DO NOT EXPECT TO LOSE WEIGHT WHEN IM BACK HOME. period. Oh well, its time to carry on with my projects and studies...

A bientot mes amis... =)

International Day... and others...

Golly, its been 2 weeks since the last post? Wow... time sure flies...
Oh well... International Day wasnt too bad... Just too tired and lazy to talk much about it now... The highlight was probably on the day b4 the actual event, when I cooked up belacan prawns liberated from our stock... The smell was... overpowering to say the least... Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese ppl were all glaring at me, walking out of the kitchen, or pinching their noses shut... XD   My dad would be proud of me if he saw that scene... LOL... It's his recipe after all... Oh well, it's been a long day... need some serious rest for the insane next few weeks... Ciao~ =)

Falling.

Some people say, never make your friends your girl/boyfriends... But I just can't get that idea into my head at all... For me, its like I can never truly like someone till I know them pretty well... So... It's probably a longer process, since I do value personality way more over physical features... So... Am I falling further for you the more I get to know you? =)

The Scientist - Coldplay

Meaningful.

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I've set you apart

Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
Oh, let's go back to the start

Running in circles
Coming up tails
Heads on the science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh take me back to the start

I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart

Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

Oh tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start

Running in circles
Chasing our tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh, it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard

I’m going back to the start

Late nights... and my inner weirdness

After rolling about in bed for the past half hour, I decided to post something, kinda random...
Probably cant sleep cuz Im not used to my own bed after almost a week in London... =.=
Oh well... Here goes...
Just this random thought that... I am human, I do get hurt... People hurt me and make me bleed at times...
But... I dont know why... Sometimes if its someone I kinda like or someone close... I'd rather bleed in silence, then watch u cry knowing that u made me bleed...
Weird but yeah... Just another random insight into the lava flowing in my heart...
Now time for a shot of vodka and hopefully some sleep... Il est 1.30 am, est j'ai une classe a 8heure aujourdhui... X.x

EXAMS

THE MOST DREADED WORD IN A STUDENT'S LIFE: EXAMS

Well, havent had much time to post recently, so here's just a short rant... Thought of writing last night before exams started but yeah... Any good student should be "busy" right... XD

So yeah, I just came back from my Geography paper... And it all went O....K.... I guess... sometimes I felt like I was rambling and crapping during the essays (as usual)... Especially the 3rd essay... I thought I was done and dusted, after writing 2 whole pages of bullshit... Only to turn around and see ANOTHER empty page... I was like WTF u expect me to write that much??? Insanity. Im not THAT verbose or into prolixity till I can crap out another page (literally) outta thin air... So... I left, having done all I can... No regrets.... And the next paper... French Level 3...

Seriously, if I actually pass this next damned paper, im gonna believe that a higher power is helping me... Or I just struck the euromillions lottery... I already got shoved into French 3 (was supposed to fail by 1 mark in French 2 last year. DAMN.) by the lecturers, so... All I can do is go in blindfolded, shoot some questions and leave... And hope that a guardian angel cleans up my mess... XD *Sigh* Thats all for now fellas... Take care wherever you are... =)

My new baby

In this post, u will experience the full-blown extent of my hidden geekiness... U have been warned... XD
There she lies, in all her glorious beauty, sleeping so soundly on my bed... my new VAIO... haha...
I might sound like some loony geek who's drooling all over the floor, but trust me, if u have one of these babies, you'd be doing the same too...

I mean... Just look at it. White. Simple. Stylish. Beauty. I've run outta words to describe it! It really is a huge contrast to my also-white but seriously messy bed... XD

Well, enough of drool and let me introduce my new toy to u guys. It's a Sony Vaio CW26FG, a 14-incher that cost RM3999... A tad pricey, but I believe its worth every damn cent that went into it...

It comes with an Intel Core i5-520M processor, clocked at 2.40GHz, 3MB Level 3 Cache with TurboBoost up to 2.93 GHz... I've only got this baby for a week, and without much time to transfer my stuff over, so I have not really tweaked around with the benchmarks and the gimmicks of this laptop... Shame really...

It also comes with the now almost-standard 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB 5400 RPM hard disk, and of course, the new Windows 7 Home Premium. Since I was using Vista before this, 7 is not too major an upgrade for me... Most things still run pretty much the same, after an hour or 2, it felt just like home =)

Of course, the graphics are not to be missed out... A Nvidia GT330m is the heart of this notebook's graphic capabilities. According to Notebookcheck's mobile graphics cards comparison list, the GT330m is a Class 2 graphics card that can pretty much handle most of the newer games on medium or so graphics settings. Good enough for me...

One reason Im raving all over my notebook is that, its not just a bimbo, its a beauty with brains... The figures from the Windows Experience Index should speak for all... 6.8 for processor and 6.4 for graphics.... (outta 7.9)*whistles*
That's almighty nuts! My only gripe is that old games like Starcraft don't work on Windows 7... So yeah... But I'll get my grubby hands on some new games too...

So... To descibe my new baby in one word? Perfection. U cant really get much better than this at the price range.... A sleek 14-incher, 2.4 kgs and armed to the teeth... A well-rounded medium-range laptop which is perfect for work and play... Tempted? =p

Terima kasih banyak banyak! XD

IRF

IRF. Industry Recruitment Forum.... or so I think... (Don't know why my head keeps thinking its International Recruitment Forum, makes sense though...) Oh well, basically its the day (as I explained b4), where all these big honchos from hotel groups come to see us, some even interview us for possible internships... Sounds great eh, in theory? But actually, it is a total bummer of a day...

Reasons? Most of the companies that come dont really accept non-EU students due to visa issues... and then U have some places like disneyland paris, where u need really fluent french, or some other chains where they require u to be elligible to work in their country b4 u even think about applying... So... this leaves us with... a very limited choice....

In my last post, I mentioned about having 2 interviews, but it got even further narrowed down to one... The bloody Taj ppl had some "emergency meeting", so no1 was there, supposed to have skype/telephone interviews but it all didnt work out... and remember i also mentioned I was supposed to have 3? Well, here's the story...

I applied for Marina Mandarin Singapore, apparently last year it was one of the hottest hotels, every1 applied for it... In fact they had to interview 15 ppl at one shot. F-I-F-T-E-E-N. ZOMFG. And according to some "insider news", those bastards from HR already chose the successful applicants even BEFORE the damn interviews began... So why bother?

Well, I didnt get the MMS (Marina bla bla bla) interview... because apparently their manager had to skip the trip due to some "business developments". How fancy. Hey guys, if u wanna cook up a story, do a better one ok? Cant u send a more junior manager? Or some1 who's on the same level? Define business developments!?  Dont ur company want more interns?

My conspiracy theory is... These bastards are all out to save cash, since its a global recession and all... So they would just like to recruit domestically, saves lots of time,money,trouble... And being Singaporean (no offense, I just HAVE TO take a swipe at u fellas), they probably gave some lame excuse for not coming. Finito. *applause*

Well, how about ur other interview, u guys might ask... Well... IMHO, the school probably filtered the applicants according to the criteria that the company gave, so... Malmaison made a big blunder in that case... All they said was... Any nationality, speaks english. GENIUS. Isnt that like... EVERY DAMN STUDENT HERE? So...

Its their folly that they have to interview like 300 of us... IN ONE DAY... So they resorted to groups of 4, lasting for 10 minutes each... In fact, it was more like a personal presentation about their company... They just talk about who they are, what do they do, etc etc... And in the end, we have to send our CVs to them via email anyway... Opinion? I dont even have to say anything... I quote one of the chaps who was with me during the interview: "Bullshit company.". Still. I want a job there. Confused? LOL.

Ah well, probably the first post that I really ranted about something... Just for kicks actually... Well, if this post kinda opened ur eyes a lil, its barely the tip of the iceberg... expect more swipes at Singapore (for some reason, maybe its the "Neighbouring Country Rivalry" thingy) in future posts... And rants that seem to start from nowhere and end nowhere... That's all for now folks...

Merci mes amis!
Monsieur Chan

p/s: I wonder how am I gonna survive 6months of working in Singapore WITHOUT condemning the country even once if I get a job there. LOL. XP

Ageing

Man, that was the fastest I actually thought of writing a 2nd post! Well, the title this time is "Ageing", and I'll very soon get to the bottom of my point... (in 500 words hopefully)

Well, like last year, our school (SHMS) is organizing this IRF thingy again... Basically, its a congregation of many big hotel chains or hospitality-related companies such as Swiss International Air Lines, hospitality recruitment agencies, hospitality management agencies, etc etc etc... So yeah, basically, these blokes are here on the lookout for talented students such as yours truly *cough*...

Last year ended quite haphazardly, I applied for a few places, but ended up getting Z-E-R-O interviews, to my dismay... But this year takes a turn for the better I guess, got 2 interviews (supposed to get 3, I'll explain that later) from Malmaison and Taj hotel groups... Basically, my aim this year is to try by all means to get an internship in the UK. Why UK? I kinda like the country I guess... And I do have friends staying there... (Kok, Mama Vynie, etc... LOL) And its where they have the EPL! And yeah, its a predominantly English-speaking country, much better off than Switzerland, everywhere either French or German...

Regardless, the Malmaison group seems like a breath of fresh air... They seem to take a radical approach, not very conventional in the industry. I like that. The problem is... My interview time is 14:30. By then I think those fellas would have interviewed like 100++ students... I might be jobless before I even get interviewed... Damn...  Oh well.... There's still Taj... What could go wrong? Well... For starters, I just received an email yesterday saying that all their high-ranking hotshots have a meeting to attend to, and interviews would be via Skype/telephone... There goes half my advantage of having "A good 1st impression" *cough cough*... To add to boot, they might be offering me jobs in India only, though they own the London Crown Plaza... A risk worth treading into I guess...

Well, after all that, you would be probably thinking now, "WHAT THE F*** has all of the above crap gotta do with ageing?" Erm... Its just a feeling that im always like a few years older in my head than I am supposed to be chronologically... Call this self-praise, but people always said I tend to think ahead of my time (as in think like an older person), increased maturity perhaps? Oh well, most of my friends, they are still thinking of what to study. Me, Im thinking of where to start working. Thinking about settling down, a job, a career, house, car, wife, kids, dog, blablabla... Its just like... Im no longer young... People would come up and say, "Dude, ur only 20!" but it certainly doesnt feel that way...

Maybe because of this I start being abit looser, going out for drinks, having fun more I guess... I start to appreciate my youth... Sounds bizzare... But... I think all the while I just feel like getting old, getting to the next stage in life as the current one always bores me. But when I finally get to the next stage, I look back and miss the old one... When I was like 10 or 12 my mom asked me, "What do u miss about being a kid?" I said... "I can go into girls toilets without getting scolded!" LOL. Of course that was just a joke, but yeah... U get the point I guess...

So... Conclusion? Moral of the above long-winded verbose crap? Enjoy ur youth while u can guys... Im only 20 but I felt like I've wasted a huge part of my life already... And life's only... just beginning... *sigh*

It's a long road guys... Savor every step that you take.
Jin Miang

p/s: I did not drink at all before posting this. =P

Renaissance

As the title suggests, this is a rebirth, or rather return to blogging for me... Since my last blog didnt go out too well (5 posts =.=) I decided to scrap the old one entirely as I thought it was a waste trying to resurrect it anyway, and the whole layout and stuff was an eyesore.

So... this new blog would be much more random I guess, I'll be just posting things from the top of my head or stuff I picked up from the 'net, or my usual Gundam hobby findings/ramblings/cool stuff. Actually, some of you might find this blog rather funny, as I AM prone to outbursts sometimes, and you might find them appearing here... Well, I guess I am much more emo than I would like people to assume I am... Taking after my mother I guess...

Speaking of which, my parents are in Switzerland starting yesterday the 12th of March... I took them to have dinner at the French Restaurant in my school, they seemed pretty impressed but kinda tired as well... Had to ditch dessert because my dad insisted on catching the 8.16 train down, can't blame them... jet lag and all...

Well, there you have a glimpse of things to come I guess... A much more unstructured and random blog, I'll just be typing things that pop into my head, on the trot... Not much editing... Just ideas flowing through my fingers... literally... Hope you guys dont mind yeah... Anyway, its been a while since I've blogged, but this kinda feels good.... VERY SURPRISINGLY... oh well... I'll be signing off for now, look forward to the next post... (if there ever is gonna be one, keep ur fingers twiddly crossed) =P

Cheers fellas!
